Maybe it's like serving tea...
"Would you like one lump, or two?"
Call me Goldielocks...not to hot, not to cold, but just right.
This is going to sound crazy, but for some reason, I think you will understand...
Once when I lived in San Fransisco, I had a 1956 or 57 black and white Chevy. It was a beatup ragtop rescued from the junkyard...Oh what a sleeper it was...nothing to look at for sure, but under the hood, the finest raceing engine. It had a big chrome pot for holding ice to keep eithel alcohol cool. The engine would rock with such torque force, I sometimes worried if the motor-mounts might snap. I would sit at a stoplight and play rock-a-by-baby. Sure enough, there was always a cherry Corvette who thought it could put me to shame. Not!!! No brag, just fact.
What did Rumi say..."What care I the cup when the wine is sweet."
That ragtop had only one glitch. The footpeddle would stick everytime it reached over 100mph. Only way to stop it was to turn off the key.
I had a friend named Susan Rice who worked at the Hilton. She had a old Alfa Romao with a aluminum engine block...it used a roll of toilet paper for an oil-filter. I lived at the top of Twin Peaks at the time. I could hear that Alfa Romao all the way down on Castro street as she started up the hill. To hear her shift gears was pure music. Who knew that in Italy, all the police cars were Alfa Romaos.
I remember driving down Highway-1, Kathy Palma, Susan, and me all in the front seat...eating Sourdough French Bread and drinking Champagne straight from the bottle. Looking out the driver's window...you guessed it...a pretty boy and his new Corvette pulled alongside. We all smiled at one another. Susan had that look in her eye, so I took a big swig from the bottle thinking it might be my last. Susan started playing tag with that Corvette around the winding curves until we hit a stright-a-way. The race was on...that Corvette thought he had us by a nose...then Susan turned to us and as cool as a cucumber eased that Alfo Romano into fifth gear. If I could only show you the look of shock on that guys face as we passed him...talk about a shut-down.
Those were the days my friend, I thought they'ed never end...

To tell the truth, it was Susan and Kathy that I value, their friendship made the experience priceless. I had a cream coloured 1967 Buick Rivera two-door, a low-rider, now that was some stylish car. If I had to choose between the Buick and the sleeper Chevy...I think I would choose the Rivera and it's spaceship dash, butter-soft creamy leather bucket-sets. If getting there is half the fun... in that Buick...pure high class. Seven coats of lacker finish paint. Had to trade her in for a truck, had a problem with the hydrolic lifters, couldn't adjust them. Took her in to a Summevale showroom at night...opened the doors, hood, and trunk, all of which had lights. Every salesman in the building came out to look at her. I knew I had won that poker hand by the look on their faces. God forgive me, but I didn't tell them about how bad she knocked until I filled her with heavy motor oil the day before.
How ya doing Serenity? Coffee is always on for my friends.

But but but Susan, that's the thing about hydrulac lifters, they require no adjustment!!! Maybe they werern't hydrulac, or maybe the knock was coming from further down. In either case, nothing an engine swap wouldn't fix!!! A lot of cars, its not worth the time money and effort, but with that one I'm sure it would have been. I can't think of a whole lot of cars I've had that I wish I hadn't gotten rid of (at least in the condition they were in when I sold them). The rust bucket 65 Comet I replaced with a rather clean bodied 65 Falcon. The Camaro was well past it's prime when it was totalled by a scumbag uninsured motorist. One of the few in the category of cars I kinda wish I'd kept was my first car, a 76 Maverick. After the Camaro incident, I replaced the Camaro with a CLEAN 85,000 original mile 74 Maverick!!!

This has been car talk on No Boxes Please...

Oh yea, and there was this tiny little Subaru 360 I drove for a short while... It was a lot of fun, but not very quick, but it would go a week easily on only about 5 gallons of gas. I rolled it and ended up in the hospital with a concussion for a couple of days. Just before I rolled it, I had chugged a bowl of tomato soup. Shortly after I arrived at the hospital I started throwing up... TOMATO SOUP!!! They saw that and were concerned that I had internal injuries!!! LMAO!!! I set them straight on that right away. I drove by one of those on the side of the road today, it's been YEARS since I'd seen one of those...

Nice paint job on that Falcon. One question...I gotta know. Was that a carrot airfreshner hanging from the bumper plate? LMAO!
Sorry about the Camaro. Thank God no one was hurt...thats the thing about older cars, they can take a hit and not foldup like the newer models.

You learned a secret of getting medical attention if your ever in a crowded hospital waiting room...throw-up. In your case tomato soup. Hahaha!!! I bet you had their full attention until you told them...good thing too.
As a teenager I got sick in the snow once...to many Slow Gin Fizzes. Hahaha!!! Everybody thought I had ruptured something.

Lots of old four-wheel-drive Subarus'(spelling?) in this neck of the woods with odometer reading around two hundred. I never owened one myself, but they must be tough little cars.
Your right! This is kinda like the Frick&Frack brothers. I've have to get out there with my camera and take some snapshots. Have a great weekend.
