Here are a few photos of the Rubber boa snake that I found in my cabin this Summer. Although I write stories that most people would call fiction, some things are based on facts.
Fossorial...can you digg it?
Crepuscular...active in the twilight.

aawwwww he/she's a cute wittle snake. Thank goodness it didn't get cut on those sharp Arizona green tea edges! I love the flowers too!

Hi Ellen and Pank,
The picture was taken on a big PUD(eletric co.) spool table I have in the front yard. Sad to say the flowers are gone until next year, but I did save the seeds. Just about when the plants were ready to bloom again the deer found them.
I set the table, so I really can blame them. Anyway, the frost would have finished them this last week so guess it was better the deer had a good snack.
Now I use the table to sharpen my chainsaw.
Ya, the baby snake was cute. Still don't know what kind of snake it was tho. Hopefully it grew up and found a good home to hunker-down for Winter.
Pank, that's not just any old Arizona Green Tea can! That's a piece of Found Art! ;)
November and December is force paperwhites season, not to far off, and I'll have inside Winter flowers blooming.

That's pretty cool. Some of the best nature can be the kind that comes to visit you. Always kinda wanted one of those spool tables.
I remember the first time my husband bought an Arizona Tea can and gave it to me to drink...I immediately marveled over the artistry of the can, so I was not surprised that you commented that...even if you winked like Paline...ha
I asked the expert...chris and he didn't know what kind of snake it was either but he guessed it may have been a worm snake??????

Herpetology is an intresting branch of science.
The rare Rubber Boa(Charina bottae)is the closes relative to the Rose Boa which is on California's protected list for rare species.
They are known to be fossorial.
